Montréal - March 2, 2007 : Alternatives' Board of Directors is proud to announce the confirmation of Ms. Marie-Hélène Bonin as the organization's new executive director.Ms. Bonin came to Alternatives from the international department at the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), where she head the CLC's programs in Africa, covering issues such as labour and women's rights, Canadian development policies, and HIV/AIDS.She has extensive experience in international development and humanitarian work, working in and with a number of national and international organizations.She spent more than ten years working in Africa itself.
Prior to the Canadian Labour Congress, Ms. Bonin worked as coordinator of Doctors Without Borders' Canadian Campaign for Access to Essential Medicines, and as marketing director of the NSJ Center, a media training organization based in Maputo, Mozambique.She also served as coordinator for the World Association of Community Broadcasters (AMARC) Africa, a network of community radio stations and associate organisations promoting social change through the development of a strong community radio sector.She also worked in the 1980s to end apartheid in Southern Africa as a staff member of CIDMAA, a founding organizational member of Alternatives, and as a CUSO cooperant in South Africa.
